WHAT DOES “Artisan” MEAN?
An artisan is a skilled manual worker who makes items that may be functional or strictly decorative. This  includes furniture, clothing, jewelry, household items, tools and just about anything that requires a persons skill to accomplish. Manufacturing items by hand and with hand tools imparts unique and individual qualities to artisanal products.  This is in stark contrast to mass produced goods where every item is nearly identical. Artisans traditionally apply their skills in media such as stone, wood, ceramics, glass, common and precious metals, basketry, textiles, leather, fur, wax, paper, and flowers.

WHY THE TITLE "Artisan?"
I chose the title "Artisan" because I believe everything that has, or will be created, is an extremely unique piece of art. All creation is a labor of love that has an eternity's worth of time, energy and love poured into it. As I created this film, one instructor suggested I change this title because it is used for many products. However, I cannot think of a better word to describe creations designer other than to rename it "The Artisan" to give even more focus to The Designer of it all, because even this film was inspired by The Artisan.

THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS FILM?
My inspiration came from nature, birds of paradise and my beliefs in God and the creation story in Genesis. I wanted to apply the creation story in a new way in combination with vivid colors and beautiful fictional landscapes. I used anything in nature that feels exotic such as Brazilian butterflies, birds of paradise and the paradise flowers. French curves were the basis for every background and character design to give a very organic feel to every aspect of the project.
